Preview: Luton Town vs Arsenal – Team news, lineups

Tuesday’s Premier League matchup between Luton Town and Arsenal will see them face off in a top-tier match for the first time in thirty-two years at Kenilworth Road.

Over the weekend, Mikel Arteta’s team defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 to increase their advantage at the top of the table while the Hatters lost 3-1 at Brentford.

Team News

Tom Lockyer, the captain of Luton, had to be substituted after the halftime whistle on Saturday after being knocked down in the penalty area during the opening moments of the match against Brentford.

Teden Mengi was another victim of that loss, suffering a knee injury that will need to be evaluated further in the next few days. Alfie Doughty’s hip injury, which kept him out of action all weekend, further complicates Edwards’ defense situation.

Though he is still recovering from a thigh injury, Albert Sambi Lokonga will not be able to play for his parent club this week. Marvelous Nakamba (knee), Mads Andersen (thigh), Reece Burke (thigh), Cauley Woodrow (calf), and Dan Potts (ankle) are keeping the Arsenal loanee company in the medical bay.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, who had returned to full strength, was forced off the field in the closing moments of Wolves’ visit, inflicting a blow to Arsenal’s defense as well. However, Arteta is unsure if Tomiyasu’s injury was due to weariness or something new.

Ben White, however, is very likely to be considered for a recall to the backline, while the comebacks of Thomas Partey (thigh), Emile Smith Rowe (knee), Fabio Vieira (groin), and Jurrien Timber (knee) are still a long way off.

Since Tuesday’s encounter is Arsenal’s third in a row, Arteta should also be considering Kai Havertz and Jorginho. However, Nketiah’s embarrassing error against Wolves could make it more difficult for the Englishman to unseat Gabriel Jesus up top.

Luton Town possible starting lineup:

Arsenal possible starting lineup:
